Tips for players: avoiding match cancellations
Monday, June 18th, 2007Nobody is happy to see his/her match cancelled or, worse, face a no-show.
Typical causes of cancellations/no-shows are:
- Players (especially new users) are surprised that they got a match to play.
- Players forget to skip an instance of recurring availability.
- Players receive match arrangements that are “uncomfortable”.
It is in our best interest to minimize unnecessary match cancellations. Here is how:
- Remember that posting availability is stating a commitment to play a match if one is arranged for this availability. Hence, after posting availability you are obligated to check your email or One Click website for match notifications. Withdraw your availability from the website immediately after realizing that you cannot play.
- If you posted recurring availability and you would like to skip a range of dates, click on ’Edit’ for this availability and change the date to a day after the block of dates you want to skip.
- If you ended up with “uncomfortable” match arrangement it is probably because you did not configure your availability properly. You are in full control of where the potential match happens or what rating/gender your potential opponent is. You can customize your preferred courts for individual availability and you can choose the rating bubble from which your opponents will be chosen.
Please also remember that when your availability did not result in a match announced at 9:00am the day before match playing date, this availability will be exposed to compatible players through “last minute opportunities”. Use the “withdraw availability N hours before the match start” property in the availability declaration form to control your last minute exposure to matches made through the auction.
We expect all players to confirm matches through the website as soon as possible after getting a match notification.
It is always a good practice to call your opponent before going to the match location.

See you on the courts,
